First Wedding of the year was for Stafina and Anthony at Cameron house. I haven’t performed in Cameron house for over a year which is a shame because I always love the drive up to Loch Lomond. From memory it is very well sign posted and as I knew roughly where it was I thought I’d set off a bit earlier than normal and get a coffee overlooking the loch. Never trust Sat Nav However things didn’t quite work out to plan. When I got to where I thought Cameron House was I couldn’t remember if it was left or right. So I looked for my sat nav and I had left it at home, not very clever, however, I have the googlemaps on my iphone which said I was 37 minutes away. WHAT?? How could this be? So I drove the 37 minutes only to discover a caravan park? Not quite the hotel that was voted: most stylish Scottish hotel of 2009. After driving around for a further 15 minutes it was time to admit defeat and ask for directions. Bearded man: “Left, right, right, right it’ll take you about 35 – 40 minutes” Me: “37 minutes actually - cheers” We thought you’d be taller. On arrival I was slightly late so I got started straight away and everything was going great. I met a few people who had seen me perform over a year ago and they said they still had my business card and where still looking for a reason to hire me. It’s always nice to meet people who don’t have birthdays lol Anyhow, in came the bride and WOW. Stunning Italian lass in my favourite wedding dress of all time – it was fluffy!!! She saw me do magic but she looked more confused than most people. She said, I thought you were 6’10”. I laughed although I didn’t get the joke. Then I went onto my next group and they said, “We thought you’d be taller” hmmm, too surreal for my liking. I asked what they meant and they said, “We read on your website that you were 6 foot 10”. Eh? Now I’m 5’7” and I have photos on my website with other people who clearly tower above me. So where / why would I say I was 6’10” and then it dawned on me. Around a year ago I wrote my FAQ web page. Upon researching other magicians FAQ websites I realised that all they did was ask questions that they could answer about themselves. i.e. Has your magician performed in more than 2 continents? – Yes I have performed in America and Europe. I found this pretty pointless and did a parody and said, “Is a magician’s height important?” Yes I am 6’10”. So I’ll need to put it on the list of things to update. Giving a bit extra – the celebrity experience Although I had performed for an hour, I decided to do table magic during the meal as a way of saying sorry for being late. It was going fantastically well and I got into a conversation with one of the guests of how I was also attempting stand-up comedy. He asked if I’d heard of Kevin Bridges and I informed him how I had just added Kevin Bridges to Face book and how I had my tickets to see him in May. He then informed me that Kevin’s Mum and Dad were at his table! Amazing! So I went and said hi and did some magic for them. Sent Kevin a msg on Face Book but he never got back to me grrr. Anyway, if you haven’t heard of Kevin Bridges – you will and here is a wee clip of his show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaUDY1M6JNs First Wedding of the year down and it was a lot of fun Until Next time – keep smiling!
