Who Is Derren Brown?

Derren Brown is the most famous magician in the UK. He specialised in an area of magic known as mind reading or mentalism as it’s known in the community. Derren Brown shot to fame in 2000 when he released Mind Control on Channel 4. Mind Control was 6 episodes of Derren Brown performing applied psychology to get his spectators to complete tests, such asking a spectator to hold a coin in any hand and Derren could predict every time what hand it was in.

After his TV show he was described as;

The closest thing earth has to a Jedi knightAfter his Mind Control series he released Inside Your Mind and Tricks Of The Mind 1 & 2. He now performs an annual one off TV special. The most famous of which was when he performed Russian Roulette with a real gun This program received the 3^rd highest number of complaints on British TV.

Derren Also performs at theatres around the country and I highly recommend you go to see him as he’s brilliant!

What does Derren mean to Woody?

After watching Derren Brown I knew what I wanted to do with my life. It was a total light bulb moment and that bulb has never went off. After reading both of Derren’s books Pure Effect and Absolute Magic I knew that his style wasn’t right for me. I wasn’t comfortable being a Derren clone and decided to go off in my own direction of a more light-hearted mind reading. Derren Brown is the person I look up to most in the world.

Random facts about Derren Brown

· He has a parrot called Figaro and named a card control The Figaro Shuffle

· He is a member of some Parrot sanctuary in Scotland

· He got his TV break after channel 4 had searched the globe for a new min reading act. After not finding anyone, they asked Jerry Sadowitz and he said Derren Brown was their man.

· Derren wrote a congratulations message on a business card for me when I passed my Magic circle audition.

· He once had a game of basket ball with Sacha baron Cohen and David Blaine.

· He does a mean impersonation of Uri Geller
